SafestHires currently serves the San Antonio Humane Society and the Yavapai Humane Society, and we continue to expand to additional Humane Societies. Each Humane Society is an independent organization, so each one chooses its own screening provider and its own package. For a broader look at screening by role in animal welfare, see our humane society and animal-welfare screening guide.
The base package
The base package Humane Societies use with SafestHires costs $29.00 and includes:
- SSN Address Trace
- 7 Year County Criminal
- Nationwide Criminal Database with 50-State Sex Offender Registries
- Federal Criminal History
What each search covers
The SSN Address Trace uses identifying information associated with the candidate's Social Security number to develop address history and associated names, primarily to identify the jurisdictions that should be searched for criminal records. It is not itself a criminal-record search.
The 7 Year County Criminal search checks county court records for felony and misdemeanor cases covering the past seven years. County searches are generally considered the primary court-of-record criminal search.
The Nationwide Criminal Database with 50-State Sex Offender Registries checks a large multi-jurisdictional database of criminal-record information, plus sex-offender registry information across all 50 states. Potential records are verified at the originating court or authoritative source before being reported for employment purposes.
The Federal Criminal History covers U.S. federal district court records for cases prosecuted under federal law rather than state law, such as fraud, embezzlement and federal drug offenses.
Add to the package, or create more than one
The $29.00 package is a starting point. A Humane Society can add searches to it, or create additional packages, each with different searches for a different position type.
For example, a Humane Society might keep the base package for kennel and adoption staff, add a motor vehicle report for staff who drive transport or rescue vehicles, and add employment or education verifications for veterinary, leadership and finance positions. Each package is then available to order by name, so hiring managers pick the right one for the role.
