Definition

E-Verify is the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration system that confirms employment eligibility against I-9 data. It is separate from — and in addition to — the Form I-9 itself. Enrollment is mandatory for federal contractors and for all private employers in Arizona, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Utah; other states require it for larger employers or public contractors.
